A private women’s club in the heart of Bogotá

In the heart of Bogotá, overlooking the verdant Virrey park, lies La Casa de Amelia (Amelia’s house), a club for the modern woman; from the gracious hostess that throws fabulous dinner parties in exotically-themed interiors, to the more introverted type who just needs a peaceful place to read and write.

Details are everything at La Casa de Amelia, with fresh flowers, books, and unique furniture adorning every corner.

This is Estefanía and Nibal Neme’s latest proposal for the local Bogotá woman. After years of working on one of the Colombian capital’s largest window displays (an entire block on 90th Street), the two embarked on a longtime dream: a private club, exclusive to women.

The first thing you see when walking through the entrance to Amelia's house.

Every detail, from the color of the bathroom wall to the plants displayed on the terrace, is carefully selected to transport members from the middle of the bustling urban sprawl to idyllic scenes like Cuba in the 1950s, Paris, or even an African jungle.

Each of the four rooms, plus a foyer, terrace, and ample ladies’ room, feature an assortment of vintage finds, local designs, and a few bespoke pieces curated by in-house industrial designer and window dresser Estefanía Neme. To follow, kriteria’s tour through the house, and each uniquely designed space.

The Foyer

The front door opens up to a long foyer of wood flooring and open doorways that grant a sneak-peek into each unique room. The hall is flanked by dusty-pink velvet couches, industrial lighting and vintage lamps, an extra-large, royal blue armchair on the left, and a neon sign declaring “Good Vibes Only” at the far end.

Spaces like the African room transport to another time and place.

The African

The first stop on the left is a tropical dining room bedecked with details recalling the African jungle. Elaborately woven rattan chairs form a sitting room set on a background of green paneling, large windows, and botanical wallpaper.

Powder Room

The girliest room in the house—complete with a changing room, mini hair salon, and a vanity table, this room was created for getting ready with friends before a night out or a big event.

Set just beside the sunny terrace, Le Salon lends itself to a variety of activities like lounging, working or conversing with friends.

Le Salon

A room that recalls the city of light: Paris. With velvet couches, striped pillows, vintage floral wallpaper, and cheery red flowers, this sitting area is designed for prolonged periods of lounging.

A pale pink and green entryway leads to the Garden Room.

The library is the most peaceful spot in the house, with plenty of places to sit while reading one of the many books on display or catching up with some work.

The snack bar is characterized by wood tones and pops of bright red.

The club also offers a bar filled with bites, treats, coffee, tea, and other refreshments to nibble and sip on throughout the day.
