The Student Hotel, designed by Masquespacio

It should be noted how the use of color not only influences one’s mood, it can also be used to create a bold design statement in the environment.

Led by Colombian interior designer Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and marketing director Christophe Penasse, Spanish design agency Masquespacio is known for its eye-popping use of color and whimsical, geometric interiors, and for creating spaces and objects that look to graphic design and the seventies for inspiration, while adding a splash of joy to the daily tedium.

The studio’s style seamlessly fits the youthful model behind Dutch hotel group The Student Hotel, a new concept in hybrid hospitality that offers design-focused co-living and co-working options for students.

The hotel group’s latest campus in the Marina and Poble Sec districts of Barcelona, Spain, includes over 500 rooms spread over 21,000 square meters and four towers, featuring a variety of shared environments, game areas, swimming pools, open and closed lounges and seating areas, as well as work and study areas that encourage connectivity while also providing a space for learning and development.

Masquespacio combined The Student Hotel’s branding with a Mediterranean touch, creating an eclectic look that fuses materials, colors and textures. With references to Memphis group— a signature inspiration of the design studio, a bit of retro, seventies-era details and an industrial aesthetic, the design perfectly fits the student lifestyle, consolidating students’ typical daily activities while also serving as a source of inspiration to them.
