Hotel Click Clack Medellin, a hub for the local creative economy

Walk into the lobby of the Click Clack Hotel in Medellín, Colombia and at once you’ll notice that this is not just any hotel. The Bogotá-based hotel chain represents an innovative, fresh, and young approach to hospitality, and one that has managed to materialize the hopes and dreams of the local creative sector.

A key example of this uncomplicated approach to modern hospitality is the main hall, which has replaced a traditional reception with a sculptural representation dubbed "The Light Bulb Man" complemented by a self-check-in system made available through unattended tablets.

Carried out by Plan:b Arquitectos, the hotel cuts through a block of the El Poblado neighborhood in Medellín, allowing pedestrian access, and opening itself up to the adjacent streets through various entrances. The ground floor of the building is slightly sunken and is intended as a community space, where daily life coexists with the activities of the hotel and its users.

The building is conceived as a cultural epicenter that seeks to promote local creative industries through art, gastronomic events, fairs, concerts, theater, nightlife and various types of recreation.

The dark gray color is the undoubted protagonist of the architectural space, exaggerated by the shadows that contrast with the intense vegetation of the interior and its surroundings. According to Plan: b Arquitectos, "In Medellín, the sunlight generates defined shadows all of the time, so that the tones vary in intensity, always in a gradation of gray."

During the planning phase, the hotel’s own internal creative management team, the Click Clack Lab, dedicated to developing products, experiences, graphic pieces, plus interior and architectural design, worked hand in hand with several local designers to develop their interior design concept.
